About the Cog Set Papyrus Racing Club

Cog Set Papyrus Racing Club is for riders from Youth A upwards to adults. We feel we are a bit different insofar as we have partnered up with a charity, Papyrus whose aim is to prevent suicide in young people. In 2016,  we lost a rider, Kyle Lewis, who took his own life seemingly out of the blue. This has profoundly shaped everyone involved in the club. We are very proud to make our ethos promotion of this amazing charity as oppose to say promoting a bike shop. We feel it is what makes us different, our unique selling point as it were.  We therefore don't have a sponsor...we are really the cycling sponsor of Papyrus.

We have already made a difference. Parents from both our own and other clubs have made contact with us to discuss the mental wellbeing of their kids, or themselves. This feels like 'job-done'. We can offer advice, and hand over contact details about Papyrus where they can get expert input to keep young riders well.

What we do have though are loads of brilliant people and companies who want to support us in our support of Papyrus, for very little recognition. It is great when something becomes about the cause like this.  We get big discounts from N-Fuse sports nutrition, Identity Furniture, Epoca bikes and Parentini race wear, plus trade prices on accessories.

The racing kit we wear is pretty awesome and is the same as is currently worn by the Danish National Team.

We have big ambition. As a club we regularly deliver riders onto the British Cycling Regional School of Racing (RSR) in road, track and MTB. We are also one of the dominant clubs in cyclocross in the north west. We have also had riders on the Olympic Development Academy and representing GB. Our main aim though is to create a club for life, which looks to create an environment for lifelong friendships, café rides, training hard, racing together and keeping everyone mentally and physically as well as can be.

There is a small joining fee, half of which acts as a donation to Papyrus.

Cog Set Papyrus Racing Club is an extension of the Salt Ayre Cog Set Go Ride Club. We share the same values, expectations constitution and committee.
